Martin Walter's unusually large and elaborately detailed four-square has that form's typical hipped roof with central dormers and broad, bracketed eaves above a dentil bed molding. The full-length front porch, supported by ornate Ionic columns, extends beyond the house to frame the driveway entrance in a porte-cochère. Walter and his two brothers came from Germany to establish Walter's Brewery, which, at its high point, distributed twenty-seven different brands of beer in seven western states. The brewery closed in 1975, and much of it has been destroyed. The house reopened in 1989 as a bed and breakfast with many original interior fixtures.
