This neo-Pueblo Revival house of stucco over brick combines irregular massing and buttressed and battered walls with such fanciful touches as vigas and a small exterior ladder that connects the first story with a stepped-back second level. The design incorporates small-paned windows and a curvilinear roofline. The owner, James Vernon Phelps, and his family have made their home and its walled garden a showcase for southwestern art.
