Brown fired-clay blocks sculpted into neo-Southwestern motifs adorn this yellow brick school, which was created by an unusually close and innovative alliance of architect, artist, and brickmaker. Pueblo's premier architecture firm commissioned Kenneth Williams, then potter-in-residence at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, to design and fabricate the large bas-reliefs with the help of Summit Brick and Tile Company. This contemporary structure, built at a cost of $1.2 million, fits in well with the tiny but proud Pueblo Revival cottage across the street at 1717 East Orman Avenue.
