An 1879 frame saloon was replaced by this two-story brick building with a bracketed metal cornice. The interior is unusually well preserved, although barn wood now hides the Italianate exterior. An oak Eastlake partition separates the old-fashioned antechamber from the main barroom. A classical cornice, frieze, beadwork, dentils, and Tuscan columns frame a diamond-dust back bar mirror. Beyond the main barroom and through swinging bat-wing doors are a dance hall and back rooms. The McMahon family, owners since 1943, have filled this 1880s interior with antiques, art, and animal trophies.
