Architecturally far more sophisticated than the nearly contemporary St. George's Episcopal down Princess Anne Street (
FR2
), this church shows how quickly Protestant congregations accepted the Gothic image. Renwick's bulky forms, such as the engaged buttresses on the tower, combined with the stucco covering (over brick), produce wonderful shadows. The plan is typically Baptist, with the parish hall on the ground floor and a raised auditorium. Several of the stained glass windows are by Jakoby Art Glass of St. Louis.
