The southern affliction of “columnitis gigantis” appears in this house, which later generations tended to interpret as colonial rather than Greek Revival. Originally built as a Presbyterian girls' orphanage and school, it later became a residence. It is unusual in that the porch, with its massive brick and stucco columns, is cut into the bulk of the house, the roof forming a single, volumetric mass encompassing the portico.
