A wonderful ensemble of house, outbuildings, office, and gardens, this complex is also significant for two women who were connected with it. The famous photographer Frances Benjamin Johnston stayed here frequently; she was a friend of Kate Doggett Boggs, the owner, a noted authority on Virginia gardens and contributor to The American Horticulturist. Boggs began the Garden Club of Virginia's program in restoration, and her first project was the creation of the gardens at Kenmore in 1929 (now destroyed).
