A real “cottage” at last, straight out of the illustrations in Kate Greenaway's books! For all its overt fairy-tale prettiness, this is as disciplined an example as can be found in Rhode Island of the sort of artistic “Cotswold” cottage featured in the English publication International Studio. Plain board shutters with abstract flower cutouts frame multi-paned sash, each of the upstairs windows with a boat-shaped window box waiting for petunias. Asphalt thatch bonnets the windows and eaves, and gives way to little eye-shaped windows lighting the attic on either side. (Some window alterations have occurred downstairs.)
