Through the arch, and adjacent to it, is McKim, Mead and White's Romanesque Revival lifesaving station, a severe, beautifully crafted, and compact granite box with the Rhode Island anchor emblazoned in low relief over the entrance as its only embellishment. Its grand austerity is all but swamped by unsympathetic appendages for its present use as a restaurant.
