Built at approximately the same time as Bates's Colson Hall (
ML1.8), this theater became Morgantown's main venue for live performances and first-run films. Three ground-level doorways are flanked by shops. Above, paired Ionic pilasters divide the well-proportioned Georgian Revival facade into three sections, with the central mass slightly recessed. Above the third floor, the frieze of the central section is inscribed with the word Metropolitan. The interior, with seating for 1,300 (including oversized seats for oversized patrons), carries out the classical theme with a profusion of garlands and urns.
