The West Virginia Review took proud note of this building in its February 1926 issue: “Chemistry Hall is the largest and most complete educational building in West Virginia, standing four stories high and being 254 feet long by 79 feet wide with a laboratory room projecting from the west end of the first floor.… There are more than 100 rooms.” Here architect Davis employed limestone trim sparingly, using it primarily to embellish twin entrances near both ends of the long facade. The roof, formerly a barely noticeable shallow hip with dormers, now displays a post-modern look. An overscaled Palladian motif facing University Avenue attempts to disguise the building's new HVAC systems.
