This Gothic Revival brick church, which replaced a stone church of c. 1766, was designed by Mills and built under the supervision of John Bruce, a local businessman. The two single-story vestibules flanking the central tower were added c. 1900 and the church was lengthened c. 1916 with the addition of a new chancel. The building was originally four bays deep, but the rectory (1839) to the right housed the church's ministers until 1946 and now accommodates church programs. In 1925, the remains of Thomas, sixth Lord Fairfax were reinterred from another location to a crypt on the west side of the church.
