Denbigh marks a significant maturation of Cope and Stewardson's style here, characterized by greater emphasis on horizontality accented with verticals and with a greater attention to the integration of historical detail in an overall composition. The materials, schist with accents of bluestone and sandstone, and its isolated position to the rear of Taylor Hall are the last nod to Addison Hutton's Victorian plan. The short wing housed Bryn Mawr's first graduate students, marking the growing aspirations of President Thomas. Denbigh Hall burned in 1904 and was immediately rebuilt by Cope and Stewardson with some minor alterations.
