1859. 205 Madison St.

Built for a doctor, this impressive five-bay brick house is fronted with a porch with column capitals of the relatively rare Temple of the Winds version of the Corinthian order. The ornate cornice contains circular, cast-iron insets for attic ventilation. The recessed, polygonal wing to the right was matched by another on the left until 1901, when it was demolished to provide space to build the frame Queen Anne house next door.
