This venerable survivor may date from the late eighteenth century, as has been claimed, but given the sluggish building activity in the years following Morgantown's 1785 founding, an early-nineteenth-century date seems more likely. At any rate, the two-story, two-bay, vernacular building, constructed of uncoursed rubble sandstone and covered with a gable roof, is most certainly the oldest structure in downtown Morgantown. Much original fabric survives inside, including a corner stairway with winders and a huge fireplace in the main room. In 1935 the Morgantown Service League, a volunteer organization, acquired the house. The league continues to maintain a craft and thrift shop on the premises.
