Haller designed a number of Capitol Hill houses in which the predominant influence was that of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. The Hill house, built by John H. Nolan at a cost of $8,500, is a particularly imposing example. Intensely architectonic in its forms and details, its two 6-foot-wide bays were designed as separate fields with different window patterns and cornices. The entrance arch and the balcony bay above the double-story projecting circular bay window provide diagonal points of richly articulated surfaces in an otherwise rather stark composition.
