The architect and date of this particularly fine three-story Italianate house are unknown, but it does appear in the 1887 Hopkins Real Estate Atlas for Washington. Hard-burned brick is laid with butter joints to achieve a flat, taut wall surface to better throw into relief the cast-iron window hoods, door surround, and elaborate triple-arched and bracketed cornice.
