These two schools are massive rectangular-plan buildings of red pressed brick, joined by a connecting passage, with raised full basements, red sandstone foundations and trim, and red mortar. Architect Harlan Thomas gave the high school round-arched windows with inscribed spandrels and a bracketed cornice above a garland frieze. A single-story apsidal bay on the north housed the public library until 1907. Robert Roeschlaub of Denver designed a simpler, harmonious two-story addition to the west which has recessed, flat-topped windows but uses the same brick and trim with Georgian Revival elements. Both schools were restored in 1982 for professional offices.
