1887. 1987, renovation and addition, Gibson and Reno. 100 S. Spruce Ave.

Telluride's old, 800-square-foot stone jail was enlarged with a 4,000-square-foot addition and converted to the town library. The addition leaves the jail as the more prominent wing of an L-shaped building enclosing two sides of a courtyard, entered through a new stone and wood archway with built-in benches. The open-beam gable on this archway reflects the pedimented gable dormers of the new metal-roofed, red brick library building and the open beams of the Post-modern interior.
