Telluride's only all-metal-clad facade is on the two-story Mahr Building. It replaced the one-story, wood-frame San Miguel Valley Bank building, which had the distinction of being the first bank to be robbed by Butch Cassidy, in 1886. The money was never recovered. The Italianate cast iron facade bears the inscription: “Mesker Bros., Front Builders, St. Louis, Mo., Pat. Oct 4 '87.” The galvanized iron panels on the second story form eight small columns surrounding four narrow windows. The overhanging cornice has decorative brackets, panels, and finials.
