The Ute chief Ouray supposedly soaked in the hot springs that make this one of Ouray's finest geothermal complexes. The Wiesbaden proudly displays an 1886 William H. Jackson photo of an adobe hut, which stood on the hill behind the Wiesbaden, alleged to be one of Chief Ouray's homes. The original frame structure, Mother Buchanan's Bath House, is now the rear appendage of a modernized nineteen-room lodge of natural wood and glass under a shake shingle roof. Three hot springs heat a natural rock sauna, vapor cave, soaking pool (110 degrees F.), and outdoor swimming pool (105 degrees F.).
