The thirteen lodge buildings in this small historic district include six log structures, seven modern but compatible buildings, and a campground for recreational vehicles. The William James family started a cattle ranch, but soon began taking in lodgers, who became their major source of income. The original frame ranch house (1877), with several chimneys and porches, is now the Olde Lodge. The Main Lodge (1901; additions, 1908 and 1912) is a rambling, two-story log structure with two double-decked front porches. It includes a large, half-timbered dining room, a ballroom, and the tiny Corral bar. The twenty-acre site includes a heated outdoor pool and the large, century-old Elkhorn Stables. The old casino and coach house (1890) has been converted to a restaurant.
