Roger Thorpe, an Estes Park architect, conceived this impressive earth-bermed, Wrightian addition to the town hall. Native stone walls and pillars, redwood panels, and windows are sheltered by a gently sloping, dark green roof with projecting, bracketed eaves. Intensive treescaping helps conceal the juncture with the less distinguished town hall. The old library (1922; demolished 1992), 225 East Elkhorn, was a single-story stucco structure with stone trim and exposed log trusses under a hipped roof. Constructed by town volunteers in Bond Park, it was graced by a stone fireplace and built-in window seats.
