This modern facility received the AIA Austin Chapter Green Award in 2006 for its construction on a former brownfield site and convenient location to transportation, and its rainwater collection system and passive solar hot-water heater for showers. While many homeless centers appear as simple warehouses, this one engages the street with ample windows that provide 90 percent of work light and demonstrates that social service organizations can be housed in well-lit, well-designed buildings.
