This stone vernacular house is associated with Susanna Dickinson, the only surviving woman present at the Alamo when it fell to Antonio López de Santa Anna on March 6, 1836. She later moved to Austin and is believed to have lived in this house from 1873 to 1878 when it was located at 308 E. 4th Street. In the late 1990s, local preservationists rallied to save the house and it was moved here in 2003 to prevent its demolition.

Nearby at E. 7th and Trinity streets is the Castleman-Bull House (1873). This Italianate stone house was moved in 2001 from a site on the Red River between E. Cesar Chavez and E. 3rd streets. The Heritage Society of Austin is undertaking its restoration and adaptive use as their headquarters.
