The small Tips building somehow survived an intensive building campaign in downtown in the late nineteenth century. It is one of the oldest buildings in the business district and distinctive for its eclectic design, a vertical transformation from round arches on the first floor to pointed arches on the second and Gothic lancet windows on the third, all embraced by an order of floral-capped half-round pilasters. The deeply bracketed cornice, one of the last to survive in downtown, is crowned by a semielliptical pediment topped by a large urn.
