John Blair House Kitchen

1930s, J. Bryant Heard. 501 Mulberry Rd.

Built for Martinsville mayor J. Robert Walker and his wife, Edith, a noted avocational horticulturist, this house is one of the few examples of an eclectic version of French-inspired architecture built in the nation's suburbs during the 1920s and 1930s. Characteristically, the house has a projecting front wing and a round entrance tower in the reentrant angle of the facade. The house, lit with casement windows, is entered through a batten door in its arched entrance.
