The earliest section of this stuccoed stone and brick building is the Federal three-bay two-story western half that was constructed by the town's founder, Benjamin Berry, as a residence for his daughter, Sara Stribling. When she sold it to Charles Showers in 1814, he added the rooms to the east, giving the building six bays and two front entrances. An elaborate latticed gateway leads to the three-bay porch composed of two Doric columns on each side of the wider central bay. The building is now a restaurant and a bed-and-breakfast.
