Charles S. Woolworth, who partnered with his brother Frank in the creation of the five-and-dime empire bearing his name, opened a store in Scranton in 1880. By 1907, when Holden designed this French Renaissance confection in Indiana limestone, Woolworth was one of America's wealthiest men. It was recently restored.
