Until a new bridge across the Susquehanna opened in 1986, this Romanesque Revival bank commanded Towanda's most active intersection. Its architects exploited the prominent site by giving the three-story brick building a semi-octagonal corner clock tower bristling with pinnacled wall gables. Brownstone trim, polished granite columns, and arched entrances (the large one to the bank, the other to the offices) are Romanesque in style. With the main floor set well above the sidewalk, the raised basement accommodated a barbershop, and the upper floors housed law and dental offices. After the bank merged with another in 1971, it expanded into the adjacent 1890 Nathan Loewus Building.
