Evidence of regional linkage is the presence of Montrose builder-architect Avery Frink, who used large blocks of rock-faced stone (from nearby Mill Stone Creek) and a round battlemented ventilation tower to give the jail a fortresslike Gothic appearance, not unlike that of John Haviland's design for Eastern State Penitentiary (
PH126), begun half a century earlier. The sheriff and his family lived in the front portion, with large sash windows; the two floors of jail cells were in the rear, with small horizontal windows. The tower was removed in the early 1950s and the jail was vacated in 1991; since 2002 it has been the home of the Bradford County Historical Society.
