With its pedimented and stuccoed central section and flanking frame sections with beaded siding, this Federal plantation house, like nearby Elk Hill (BD29) and Old Rectory (BD28), has evolved from different construction periods into a harmonious whole. Situated on part of the original Poplar Forest tract, the house was built by William Radford, a lawyer, banker, landowner, and friend of Thomas Jefferson. Its pedimented central pavilion, entrance, and unusual degree of architectural elaboration are reminiscent of Fancy Farm (BD23).
