The Prescott House is one of the few territorialera residences surviving in Virginia City and one of the most intact period houses in Nevada. C. J. Prescott, a timber merchant, built the one-and-one-half-story front-gabled house with a veranda on square piers, embellishing it with simple wood moldings. The original paint colors, oxblood with trim in gold and green, have been matched by the present owners. In 1867 Prescott built an addition to the house, which remains its only major modification since construction. During the 1980s the owners began a detailed restoration.
