Robert Sitlington House (Old Stone House)

Robert Sitlington House (Old Stone House) Virginia Department of Historic Resources
c. 1798; late-19th-century porch; 1980s restored. VA 664, off VA 42, 8.5 miles southwest of Millboro Springs

One of the oldest surviving dwellings in Bath County, this house was built near Cowpasture River for Robert Sitlington, a Revolutionary War veteran, Bath County justice, and wealthy landowner. The two-story fieldstone
building with its brick interior-end chimneys is a rare example of a late-eighteenth-century house that is atypical of the county's surviving early domestic architecture. The house was restored in the early 1980s when it received a two-story front porch similar to one shown in a nineteenth-century photograph of the house.
