One of the oldest surviving dwellings in Bath County, this house was built near Cowpasture River for Robert Sitlington, a Revolutionary War veteran, Bath County justice, and wealthy landowner. The two-story fieldstone
building with its brick interior-end chimneys is a rare example of a late-eighteenth-century house that is atypical of the county's surviving early domestic architecture. The house was restored in the early 1980s when it received a two-story front porch similar to one shown in a nineteenth-century photograph of the house.
