Set within a manicured upper-middle-class suburban site is this characteristic version of a rambling single-floor house by the California Modernist Richard J. Neutra. The horizontality of the design, reinforced by the thin, wide overhanging roof slab, is countered at the entrance by a vertical stone pylonlike wall. Windows on the street side are in narrow bands directly under the roof soffit. On the garden side of the house are extensive areas of floor-to-soffit fixed glass, and glass doors open onto terraces.
