Valone House

1984–1985, Charles Herbert and Associates. 3605 Southern Hills Dr.

The module of the square, enlarged here and reduced there, comprises the faces of this dwelling. The entrance facade of the house is treated as a freestanding screen wall in front of which is a lower volume completely clothed in glass brick. The house refers back to the early days of European and American International style Modern and to the design-cultivated complexities and contradictions of Postmodernism of the 1970s and 1980s. An example of this is the thick masonry-like entrance frame, which seems to float out in front of the two-story glass brick entrance of the building.
