1896, Hallett and Rawson. 3200 Grand Ave.

This is design characterized by a mild medievalism expressed through a row of buttresses and adjoining pointed-arched windows that help to center one's attention on a four-story tower. The tower has a Viennese Secessionist flavor about it—similar not only to European examples, but also to the contemporary work in Chicago of Howard Van Doren Shaw and of George W. Maher. There is strongly shadowed quoining on the tower, and each or the facades terminates in a segmental curved roof, above which is a small drum and dome.
