Baltimore architect Dixon designed Grace Methodist Church (1865–1867,

) and Mount Vernon Place Methodist Church, Baltimore (1872). Newark's former Presbyterian church is far simpler than either of those elaborate Gothic Revival urban churches and uses wooden tracery instead of stone, but its stained glass is artful. Dixon and Davis briefly ran a firm together in 1867–1868. Eventually, the Newark Presbyterians moved to a more suburban location, and the university took over this stone-walled building in 1967 as a student center and dining facility. The 100-foot spire was unfortunately removed. A rear wing (1920s) was demolished in 1994 when the building was incorporated into Trabant University Center (NK9.14).
