Wood, Washington's premier Colonial Revival architect, designed the Delano residence in a remarkably restrained manner. The attic story is recessed behind a parapet wall of alternating segments of brick wall and classical balusters. Two floors of brick walls with plain but finely proportioned window frames in limestone act as a foil for an elegant semicircular limestone porch composed of six unfluted Corinthian columns with sculptural details that are so reduced as to be almost suppressed.
