California Street (
SK45
SK50) consists primarily of sophisticated Colonial Revival houses built in the 1910s and 1920s. Stern's house and its neighbor, 2303, erected fifteen years earlier and designed by Boal and Brown for Leroy Goff, demonstrate the evolution from an academic interpretation of American Colonial architecture to a later application of the style that was concerned with evoking its associations in a less rigidly controlled composition.
