300 Block of Park Avenue

John C. Norman, West Virginia's first licensed African American architect, designed the five houses numbered from 300 to 308 Park Avenue. Easily distinguishable from their neighbors, they are suave variations on period themes. The Tudor Revival style prevails: half timbering contrasts with brick and stuccoed walls in several of the houses, and all have varied roof planes. Small in scale, they are solidly constructed and beautifully maintained. (Norman is more fully discussed at the entry for West Virginia State College [ KA25].)
