Shotgun houses were a common residential type in working-class neighborhoods at the turn of the twentieth century. In Clifton Forge, they are found mostly in traditionally black neighborhoods. Exemplifying the shotgun type, this gable-front frame house has only one story, is three rooms deep, and features a shed porch with turned posts.
