Marlowe, the owner of this cemetery, apparently designed the scheme of a grand central axis and cross axes, creating, as he explained it, a “living cross.” Surrounding the central axis are curvilinear roads. The cemetery has a number of sculptural embellishments, including the Fountain of Faith (1952, Carl Milles), a composition of varied figures and jets of water; the Sunsinger sculpture (c. 1952, Carl Milles); and the Four Chaplains Memorial Fountain (1955, Constantino Nivola, sculptor, and Walter Marlowe, architect), which is more abstract than the others.
