This is one of a chain of new diners, vastly larger than their prototypes, that have been built in the Washington area in the past few years. The original design (by a New York firm, though based upon an earlier model by Richard Gutman) dates from 1989 and draws on the Mountain View (New Jersey) Company's designs of the 1950s. The marquee is perhaps a little too cute and the overall design too nostalgic, but they are a welcome change from standard fast-food outlets. Other Virginia locations for Silver Diners are Springfield, Reston, Fair Oaks, Tysons Corner, and Potomac Mills.
