This nine-story Art Deco building continues to serve as headquarters of the state's highway department. It is a rare state office building constructed in Texas during the Great Depression. The stylized eagles guarding the entrance are almost identical to those on the Empire State Building in New York City, a building admired by the head of the highway department.
