1839. 59 E. Market St.

The first block of E. Market Street contains a memorable row of Philadelphia-type town houses terminating with this largest and most elaborate structure. Built for local dry goods and hardware retailer Philip Small, it shows the ongoing link to Philadelphia for basic architectural direction in the classical entrance and cornice that denote the domestic version of the Greek Revival style. The club purchased the house in 1912.
