Built as the White Hall Hotel and renamed National House during the Civil War, its use of national symbols for its name recalls similar names at contemporary seashore hotels. This was a typical nineteenth-century urban hotel with its surrounding halo of porches and its crowning cupola for ventilation. It has been adapted for apartments and with offices on the first floor.
