By the 1920s, each of the midsized cities in the Piedmont had a new downtown hotel in the fashionable federal variant of the colonial style. The Yorktowne opened in fall 1925 with a grand ballroom above a handsome lobby. Recently restored with the assistance of the local Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff Company, it continues the nineteenth-century model of reinvesting within the region to strengthen the local economy.
