Paralleling Market Street to the north, Philadelphia Street is a second center of buildings of note. Reinhardt Dempwolf, practicing with his brother John, adapted a mid-nineteenth-century house in the style that would epitomize the German culture's ongoing desire for assimilation. This is an especially rich version of Colonial Revival, nearly Victorian in its corporeality and much more interesting than most of the pallid re-creations that characterize this revival. John's house is to the south at 904 S. George Street, another Colonial Revival house from the 1880s, while his son Fred's house is at 701 S. George Street.
